So Do People Really Just Go To Watch Horse Racing To Gamble?
That is all it seems to me.
One funny incident where I saw this guy bet on every horse. He said that way he is guaranteed to win ( ya no ****). But I always heard its also tradition to bet 2 dollars every time you go as well, this is probably the reason for being able to get a ton of 2 dollar bills at horse racing tracks.
Well I am just wondering.
Later.

unless you are related to the horse racing industry you generall yonly go to the track to bet, two bucks is a usual bet, such as two on a horse to win a two dollar trifecta, etc
This is sometimes the case. Gambling lures people to the track who would usually not be interested in horse racing. Many people however love the sport for the horses, history, and beauty of it. I got into it merely because I love horses, once I dug deeper into the sport I found a passion for it. There is much more to it than gambling, that is just a way to get people to come to the track. I believe if you are going to get into the sport love it for the majesty of the horses and the historic tracks, rather than the gambling and money aspect of it.
As in any sport, it is far more interesting and exiting when you are supporting a competitor and willing it to win. Usually the area the team or person comes from dictates this but in horse racing they are often from the same place so in order to add this element of exitement, people will place their hard earned money, whether it be two dollars or 10,000, on a particular horse so theu can have a preference and the exitement that comes from willing it to win
It has been a long time since I went to the track. But I found it fun to handicap from the racing form the night before. Often, I would just throw away the form and pick the healthiest of the top three favorites.
I started to profit about 20% after I realize that I did not have to bet on every race.
I did like Del Mar, the inside track area was more for picnics and families then the racing aspect.
The only positive thing to bet on every horse in the race is just to say “I pick the winner”
Some people do- I know a few who actually try to make a living at it! Some of us just go because most tracks are happy , fun places with lots to d0. Placing a $2 bet can be fun- you have someone to root for and it doesn’t spell disaster if you lose! If you go with a group, you can make up fun , no traditional ways of picking bets ie best name, best silks colors, etc and pool your money. Personally , I could just stand in the paddock area all day. It is amazing to see these majestic athletes up close. I have never had a bad time at the track….
I go to the track as often as possible and have started traveling
to other tracks. I do make bets but it is just as enjoyable to
watch the races without ever placing a bet. The horses are
beautiful animals and it is a joy to watch them.
That’s just part of the fun. Many people really do love the thrill of the sport, the way the horses move as they run, the poetry of it all. Plus, many racetracks are beautiful and have lovely landscaping, very enjoyable to visit. Plus, there’s beer.
If you can make money while enjoying something. there’s no harm in that.
No racing is a gorgeous and interesting sport. Gambling can be done other ways – casinos, poker, sports – but people gamble on the races because it is a facinating and fun sport.
Some pjeople go to the track simply as fans and don’t gamble. I’m one of them!
I go down to the track VERY occasional. I place 2 dollars on every race, which seems to be the standard ammount for non-gamblers. Although I also know people that don’t bet anything and just go down for the fun of it.
no. we do gamble of course, but we also socialize with the people we have met there over the years. and drink beers.
